NEW CLASS FOR DOORSLAMMERS IN GOODGUYS?

The Agent hears that the Goodguys sanctioning body may be adding a new 'slammer class to their lineup. The agent hasn't been able to find out too much but rumor has it that the new class will be some sort of Pro Street, 3200lb style of class. Good for the Goodguys who if they adopt the right rules which would give some of the Westcoast's PSCA racers who have raced exhibition at VRA races another series to race at. [6-4-2004]

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

The Agent saw Pro Street racer turned Pro Stock racer Chuck Samuel at his IHRA Pro Stock debut at Virginia Motorsports Park. The Agent asked Samuel how he was handling the Pro Stocker, which is slower than his Pro Street Mustang, and how he was going to handle going from turbos and fuel injection to carbs. The normally quite Samuel replied, "If Briggs and Stratton have been able to figure out carburetion for their lawnmowers I think I should be able to figure them out too!" He didn't qualify. WATCH OUT SPIDERMAN!

One of the Agent's Australian operatives called to say that Top Fuel bike racer Jay Upton is looking for a trailer to lease for a possible five race tour of the States after a recent 6.19 pass. Supposedly he'll be looking to race against U.S biker "Spiderman" McBride. Upton will have to find a couple of tenths if he is going to give McBride a serious threat. [6-4-2004]

Longtime DRO contributor and would-be race organizer Jeff Leonard would like to hear from Midwest based racers who would be interested in forming a Funny Car circuit. This circuit would be based loosely on the CIFCA organization, a successful California Funny

Car circuit that races against a 7.50 index. The CIFCA group holds eight races each year, and enjoys a membership of 50 or so racers who campaign a wide variety of body styles and motor/transmission combos.

GAS PROBLEMS? GEORGE CAN HELP

Race promoter George Howard has a cure for those high-priced gasoline blues that have been hitting every racer of late. At the upcoming Rocket City Nationals, July 3-4 at Huntsville (Alabama) Dragway, Super Pro Eliminator racers will vie for a winner's purse of $5,000 for a $75 entry fee, with a $50 buy-back for first or second round for the whole weekend. Footbrakers will go off for a $2,000 winner's purse for $50, with a $30 buy-back first or second round.

"I know gas prices are high now," Howard said. "I'm doing this to help the racer get to race." Huntsville will also host the June 26 "005 Trailer Sales" Night of Fire, which will include four jets, Outlaw Pro Mod eliminations and races in the 5.99, 6.99, E-Z Street and R 'n' R bracket series classes.
