Dan Nickelson |
Dan Nickelson of Laverne, California knows
how to win an AutoZone Super Chevy Show Nitro Coupe race.
No matter that he hasn't entered a single event this year,
the two-time former World Champ dusted off his trusty 1994
Chevy Beretta to take the WorkMat.net Nitro Coupe event
at San Antonio Raceway on Sunday, April 24.
Nickelson defeated Nitro Coupe rookie Wayne Torkelson in
the finals at San Antonio. Nickelson ran a 6.417 at 228.31
miles per hour to best Torkelson's 6.532 at 217.29 in his
'54 Corvette Nitro Coupe.
Despite the layoff, Nickelson made great speed in the Beretta,
which has worn a "For Sale" sign for over a year.
In the semis at San Antonio, he blew past the finish line
at 229.24 miles per hour, the season's fastest mile per
hour number.

In the Nitro Coupe semi-finals, Torkelson
defeated Dave Tomasino 6.53 at 216.45 to Tomasino's redlighting
6.884. In the other semi, Nickelson defeated Tony "Sandman"
Williams with that 6.341, 229.24 blast.
