t was hot; very hot. Hot as in 90-plus degrees in the shade with 80-plus percent humidity adding up to a heat index of over 110 degrees. Track temperatures at South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) hovered in the 130- to 140-degree range most of the day, but the cars and stars of the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) still managed to put on a great show Aug. 20, in their second visit this year to the all-concrete strip near Valdosta, GA. As a testament to the preparation and professionalism of each team participating in the popular Flowmaster-sponsored Outlaw Pro Mod series, not one major oildown or accident occurred to significantly delay the action for the more than 3,000 fans in attendance.

With 14 Pro Extreme and 10 Pro Nitrous entries on the grounds, no one was guaranteed a place in the eight-car fields for the ADRL racensur.com Sunshine Drags presented by hotrodsbyburke. Adding to the pressure, in order to wrap up the previous ADRL event that was interrupted by Hurricane Dennis in July at Belle Rose, LA, the qualifying sessions for the Valdosta race also served as elimination rounds for six Pro Extreme teams and the four Pro Nitrous semifinalists from the Louisiana race.
