After a one-week rain delay, the NHRA returned to Virginia Motorsports Park Oct. 13-15, for the first time since the 2000 season. Winners at the Torco Racing Fuels Nationals included Top Fueler Cory McClenathan, who visited victory lane for the first time since summer 2004, Eric Medlen, who picked up his second win of the season after starting from the number-one position, and Jason Line, who solidified his Pro Stock points lead by setting new national E.T. and speed records along the way to his fourth event title this year. And as always, the racers told the story of their return to Richmond through quotes taken from NHRA and team press releases.

"We did not have the best car out there, but we had the smartest guys working on it.”— Cory McClenathan referring to crew chief Wes Cerny and assistant crew chief Tony

Shortall after making a clean pass in the final against a tire-smoking Rod Fuller

"The ladder is certainly interesting to look at—you have Doug Kalitta (points leader) and Brandon Bernstein on the same side as us. You have to believe that the outcome of this race will go a long way in deciding who has the upper hand in the title chase.”— Tony Schumacher, wedged between Kalitta and Bernstein at the head of the points list, after qualifying number one for the 12th time this year, setting a new single-season record for most Top Fuel poles
