Drag Racing Online: The Magazine

Volume VIII, Issue 11, Page

Outstanding performance was the name of the game at the PSCA World Final event at California Dragway on Nov. 4-5. The mid-70's temp were picture perfect conditions for the over 250 street cars entered at the classic event in So Cal. Dominating the popular Pro Street class once again was the newly crowned Pacific Street Car Association World Champion Steve Paulauskis in the WFO gang’s Arizona-based Chevrolet Cavalier as he cranked out record ET's of 6.44, 6.46, and a 6.49.

John Scialpi actually ran a hair quicker in his Pro Mod style ‘57 Chevy (shown) at a 6.43, but could not back it up to get an official record. The fastest street car on the Fontana real estate was the awesome twin turbo 1957 of Big Ed Thornton and Shane Tecklenburg at over 229 again.

PRO STREET
A fantastic field of 13 of the quickest and fastest street machines blazed down the 1320 at Fontana led by the awesome House of Colors-painted WFO Cavalier of Steve Paulauskis and his crew from Peoria, AZ. Last season, in his first year of drag racing, Paulauskis drove Kelly Bluebaugh’s Citation, but over the winter he bought an IHRA Pro Stock Cavalier built by Larson Race Cars. Charles Carpenter provided a former Pro Mod nitrous-aided engine and Paulauskis has been on a tear ever since.

Paulauskis, who had just returned from a quarter-final finish at the World Street Car Nationals in Orlando, FL, first ran a 6.49 on Saturday to become the first PSCA Pro Streeter into the 6.4 bracket. That time was plenty stout for Low ET qualifier, while Big Ed Thornton as usual was the fast guy in the Extreme ‘57.
