They call Tony Williams (right) of Millington, TN "The Sandman." On Sunday (4/23), Tony was anything but sleepy as he used a .07 second holeshot to win the Super Chevy Nitro Coupe title at his home track, Memphis Motorsports Park in an event sponsored by O'Reilly Auto Parts.
Williams, driving a '69 Camaro, outdueled Bill Doucet of Lawtell, LA in the finals. Williams' .126 light probably won't go in his scrapbook, but he was on the sunny side of Doucet's .191 bulb. Sandman ran a 6.943 at 197.02 miles per hour to top Doucet's 6.989 at 195.39.

The Chicago Super Stock Outlaws were in the house in Memphis and thrilled the huge crowds with their high-rising launches and breath-taking ET and top end speeds, especially considering the machines are street legal. In the final, Bill Houghton of New Lenox, IL took his '02 Camaro to a victory over Dave Douma of Sumava, IN. Houghton ran an 8.020 at 172.65 miles per hour in the final; Douma's '69 Chevelle ran an 8.278 at 165.72 miles per hour.
In the Super Chevy Bracket Racing Program, the Mr. Gasket Bracket One and Bracket Two classes were run at 1/8 mile to suit local tastes. When it was over, Jared Fulcher of Mayfield, KY in his '64 Chevy II won Bracket One and Lonnie Holmes of Ripley, MS won Bracket Two. In the 1/4 mile D.O.T. class, Ron Ervin of Lucy, TN prevailed. Jamie Arnett of Memphis won the Jr. Dragster competition. (Complete bracket winners/r-u/semi information below).
