The first race of 2006 at the AAA Auto Club Dragway at California Speedway was a huge success as over 400 race cars wanted to try out the new dragstrip that Dave and Kathy Danish and crew have put together.

The concrete was poured only three weeks ago and the track was finished with the assistance of Brian Smith and Chuck Pettit of Crainco, Inc. to put the K-rail in place.

Track manager, Dave Danish (left), oversaw the relocation of the Fontana dragstrip in record time.

The first racers on the new surface were the Southern California Super Assn. Super Eliminator Super Comp Super Street and So. Cal Pro Gas, plus Top Alcohol Motorcycle.

SATURDAY

On Saturday, June 3, the winner
in Super Eliminator was Rich Swatman at 7.914/170.64 mph over the K & N dragster with Pat Jones driving. Jones ran a right on 7.904/189.mph, but Swatman cut a better light.
Super Comp went to Danny Aguayo (far lane) over "Fast Jack" Beckman when Beckman broke out at an 8.888/169.19 mph (8.90 index). Aguayo's 8.919/168.35 mph was plenty good for the win.

Over 100 Pro Gas/Super Gas cars were on hand to honor one of the finest competitors from day one in the class, Randy Marcum. Both he and his brother Ronnie were extremely involved in the creation of So-Cal Pro Gas racing. We lost Randy at the 2006 Pomona Winternationals, so this event was dedicated to him.
