The 2006 Extreme Pacific Street Car Nationals at AAA Auto Club Dragway at California Speedway beat the scorching Fontana, CA, heat and when the finals were over there were a lot of the same racers in the winner’s circle, proving they are the teams to beat this year on the PSCA tour. Car count was down at this event so the gas prices may be starting to hurt how many racers are coming out to race not just on the PSCA tour, but at all drag racing events.
Track manager Dave Danish kept racers updated on the track temperature.

During Friday’s test and tune a local couple, NHRA drivers Jay and Shelly Payne, had their blown Brad Anderson-powered Pro Mod Dodge Stratus out to test a new combination. They had a lot of tire shake and both made a few runs but never really got hold of track surface and come Saturday morning they had already packed up and gone home.

Also out testing was Jim Holtz in Marc Roy’s “Predator” Plymouth Satellite and Lil Nate Chevrolet Monza, who both made a couple of runs on Saturday and one pass together. Nate Bugg took the win light in this side by side run.

In Hughes Performance Pro Street action Steve Paulauskis from Peoria, AZ, made his fourth final round and got his third win of the season defeating Clint Hairston’s twin turbo ‘71 Camaro. Paulauskis got the win light with a 6.646 e.t. over Hairston, who got his Camaro sideways at the 1,000-foot mark and did a great driving job to save his car from hitting the concrete K-walls. Paulauskis also set low e.t. and was No. 1 qualifier with a 6.512 e.t., but Hairston set top speed at 214.86 mph.
