NO TURBOS-NO NITROUS

After having 26 cars entered at the season opener in Gainesville, Florida, there were only 16 cars at Houston and no turbocharged or nitrous oxide-injected cars were in attendance.

MUSCLE CARS RULE!

Only three of the 16 cars at Houston were had current body styles: Scott Cannon’s ‘07 GTO, defending Champ Jay Payne’s ‘05 Stratus and Bryan Seward’s ‘04 Mustang. All of the rest of the cars sported bodies from the 1950s, ‘60s or ‘70s.

THE FIVE’S JUST KEEP COMING AT HOUSTON

Scott Cannon Jr. and Raymond Commisso both ran sub six-second laps at Houston. Commisso had a 5.985/243.94 in qualifying and Cannon recorded a 5.998/238.85 in his first round defeat of Tony Pontieri. Event winner Josh Hernandez just missed his five-second lap running a 6.009/241.67 in a first round defeat of John Russo.
