Mike Boyd brought out the legendary newly built Winged Express IV AA/Fuel Altered of Marcellus/Borsch & Boyd making smokey exhibition passes for the crowd.  Boyd crashed the previous version of the Wing a few years ago at Famoso and the crowd pleasing altered is back in style.


The Howell and Keigley transformer fuel altered tuned by flopper veteran Dale Pulde and driven by Rich Howell made exhibition passes but as shown it the photo had some issues with the rear wing after the launch.


Ron Capps took his off weekend from the NHRA Big Show to drive the Godfrey & Gaynor Mopar Hemi-powered nitro flopper to the #1 qualifying position at 5.987 236.09 MPH.  He and the team joined the AutoMeter 5-second club with his first round pass.  In the first round of eliminations, Capps defeated Steve Nichols in the “Mill Road Boys” Camaro, but was unable to return for Round 2 due to breakage.


#2 qualifier Chris Abbey from Clovis, CA driving his ’63 Corvette split-window AA /Gas Supercharged defeated Dale Boomgaarden the close final round with Abbey’s 6.731 207.85 to Boomgaarden’s 6.751 207.75.
