Ye old editor of DRO, Jeff Burk, called me last week and asked if I could help him out with some kind of coverage from the IHRA Spring Nationals at Rockingham Dragway, a race I was going to be at anyway as I toil away at my real job as the PR flack for Bob Gilbertson's Trick Tank nitro Funny Car team. At first I thought no, I had too much on my plate already but after Jeff told me to scribble out anything I wanted and offered me huge amounts of cash I decided what the heck, but instead of a race report I'm just going to ramble on and type about what interested me as a somewhat jaded participant for over 40 years.

Rockingham Dragway is one of those drag strips that has a legendary status in the sport. It's been around for what it seems like forever, it was the site of many memorable moments in drag racing history and has held national and regional races under both the NHRA and IHRA umbrellas.
