NHRA at Englishtown

Venerable Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ, was the scene June 22-24, for the 38th annual Pro Care Rx SuperNationals, where Larry Dixon Jr. won his second-straight Top Fuel race and his teammate, Tommy Johnson Jr., qualified number one and went on to win in Funny Car. Points leader Greg Anderson continued his domination with another Pro Stock title, while unsponsored privateer Craig Treble won in Pro Stock Motorcycle. And as always, the racers told the whole story through quotes taken from NHRA and team press releases.

"We're going to burn up 'the Snake's' credit card at dinner tonight."— Larry Dixon Jr. on the impending celebration after he and Tommy Johnson Jr. gave team owner Don Prudhomme his first double-up win since Ron Capps and Dixon pulled off the double for “The Snake” in 2002 at Columbus, OH

"Something just happened in the motor, and it's not abnormal for something like that to happen at that spot.”— Cory McClenathan on the spectacular engine explosion and fire he experienced at the conclusion of his Friday-night qualifying pass that placed him 5th on the list

“As I always say, qualifying well is important, but I'm more concerned with what happens on Sunday. It's time we go deep into raceday.”— Tony Schumacher after securing his second-straight top qualifying position, alluding to his struggle to gain points so far this year

“That's pretty awesome performance.”— Lee Beard, crew chief for Whit Bazemore, on setting a new track speed record in qualifying 6th with a 4.52 at 332.51 mph

"Man, this is getting old.”— Tony Schumacher on suffering another first-round ouster, this time at the hands of David Grubnic
