Cruisin’ Grand

Incredible is the only word to describe the 5th Annual Nitro Night. Twenty of the finest pieces of drag racing history were on hand in downtown Escondido CA, putting on a fantastic show for the standing room only crowd of race fans.  When Bill Pitts who owns the Magicar was first approached by Steve Waldron about bringing his dragster to Crusin’ Grand 5 years ago it was a big hit then and now look what has happened.

The City of Escondido was not only treated to 20 of the finest pieces of history but it included a couple of the real local stars of the 1960’s and ‘70s.

Escondido’s favorite son and still a resident, Ted Cyr, 78, and The Lincoln were on hand. He had his last partner in Top Fuel, Flip Scofield, at the wheel of the nitro Lincoln.

Both the “Poison Ivy” (shown), owned by Ken Blackmore and driven by Jay Carpenter, which hands down won the most flames award, and the “Paradise Allley” AA/FD owned by Bob Debson were San Diego pieces too.

Randy Walls also hails from the San Diego area with his re-make Super Nova NFC.
