Upholding the alcohol honours were Frank Bennett in the Relentless Topo and Clayton Round in the Rebel T, the cumulative times recorded over three passes meant that these two stalwarts of the class met up in yet another NFAA final match-up, which Bennett won with a nice and clean 7.01 to Round’s 7.24.

Bob Glassup was being a tad conservative with the Xtreme Topolino over the weekend as the team were preparing to pack the car up into a shipping crate the Wednesday after the meeting for its much anticipated appearance at Bakersfield for the California Hot Rod Reunion. The launches from the glide-equipped car were still eye-catching, but not quite up to the moonshots the Californian crowd will no doubt see in October.

Heads Up Classes

Although the track was in a marginal state for much of the weekend, it didn’t seem to bother Andy Frost that much who managed to dial-in the boost on his twin turboed Vauxhall to set both ends of the national record in Real Steel Street Eliminator with a 7.876/188.48 backed up by a 7.890/188.53 for what were the runs of the meeting. Frosty then redlit in the semi-finals against Jason Weir (who then lost to Steve Nash in the final round) to delay his chance of wrapping up the series title until the National Finals at Santa Pod at the end of September, but he promises to turn the wick up some more, so the record marks won’t be around that long.
