Former Pro Stock and Pro Mod team owner and driver Roy Hill was featured as the keynote speaker and he entertained the crowd with stories from his past and plans for the future with his drag racing school. Hill passed out discount certificates to all racers in attendance and announced plans to hold a special school for ORSCA racers only sometime in February at South Georgia Motorsports Park, near Valdosta, GA.

ORSCA Honors ’07 Champions

The Year One Outlaw Racing Street Car Association (ORSCA) put the finishing touches on its 2007 season with its racer awards banquet Jan. 12, at the Georgia International Horse Park’s Carriage House dining hall in Conyers, GA.

After a delicious buffet dinner of traditional Southern fare, more than 200 ORSCA racers, family members and friends watched as champions in three index and four heads-up classes were recognized with checks, four-foot-tall trophies and championship-proclaiming decals for their race haulers. The top five finishers in each class also were brought on stage and presented with chiseled glass trophies, as were many ORSCA officials and track workers.

Also honored at the banquet was longtime DRO staffer Ian Tocher, who recently took a media job with the American Drag Racing League (ADRL), but was presented a similar glass trophy in recognition of DRO’s extensive coverage of the series over the past four years. Tocher also was publicly honored with the gift of a personalized bible from ORSCA chaplain Jim Daugherty.

ORSCA’s 2008 season is set to kick off Mar. 28-30, at Huntsville (AL) Dragway.

Richard Sexton clearly enjoyed the accolades for winning the 2007 Mickey Thompson Outlaw 10.5 championship. Sexton came into last season’s final race at Huntsville third in points, but after teammate Chuck Ulsch and Tim Lynch—his top two rivals—bowed out early, he had to win the race in order to seal the deal. He did.
