PSCA at Las Vegas

Bluebaugh Wins, Gentile Zips at Vegas PSCA

The April 25-27 Pacific Street Car Association’s (PSCA) K&N Filters Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway now resides in the record books. Kelly Bluebaugh of Phoenix topped the Pro Street class with a final-round win over John Mihovetz of Ontario, Calif., but Giuseppe Gentile also caused quite a stir.

With the quarter-mile strip back in its usual excellent form thanks to the LVMS track crew, Gentile’s 2008 Mustang shattered the PSCA’s Pro Street elapsed time record. Gentile, of Sun Valley, Calif., bettered the old mark with a pass of 6.297 seconds at 226.05 mph. The old ET record of 6.357 seconds was set by Mihovetz at Firebird Raceway on Oct. 7, 2007.

Bluebaugh said of the final round, “I kept waiting for the Cougar to come around me, but it never happened. I got to the end and realized we had done it, we had won the race.”

In the Pro Street final, the Accufab Cougar of Mihovetz got off the line first, but the race was over by the 330-ft mark. Mihovetz was out of the grove and had to pedal for just a fraction of a second, but it was enough for Bluebaugh’s Monte Carlo to take the win with a 6.608/214.72 to Milhovetz’s 6.760/217.63.

“Mihovetz definitely had the ET advantage going into this round,” said Bluebaugh’s crew chief Deborah Woodard, “but our car had been rock solid consistent. We had a choice: throw some power at the car or make a consistent run, showing no mercy for slip-ups to Mihovetz. This day precision consistence won the race with the grace of a seasons pro.”

It was a classic Ford versus Chevy match-up in Outlaw Street. Ron Lummus (far lane) of Anaheim, Calif., got the upset win over Rich Zehring of San Jose, 7.192/201.31 to Zehring’s early shut off 7.642/167.50. Zehring had set Top Speed at 205 mph.
