After getting past Gorman, Brent Rau and his turbocharged,122 c.i., inline-four-equipped Mitsubishi had a free pass in the semis after Billy Glidden went home early. That set up the ADRL’s first all-import final as Rau and White will race for the rain-delayed event win in Virginia.

Though he missed the cut in qualifying, New Iberia, LA’s Alex “Boom Boom” Viscardi kept the crowd entertained with wild, wheels-up starts in his twin-turboed ’66 Mustang.

PRO EXTREME MOTORCYCLE

Reigning class champion Billy Vose started his 2000 Suzuki from 3rd place. After getting past Jeff Lindeman in round one of racing, Vose and Monte Campbell made up the very first pairing of the “Arm Drop Drags,” where the champ lost in a photo finish.

Also earning his first number-one start was Pro Extreme Motorcycle rider Mimmo Marciano with a 4.29 blast at 171.73 mph—the highest speed so far attained in the class, though he wasn’t able to back it up for an official record. Marciano got a freebie when Coodee Thomas broke for round one, but lost to eventual finalist Scott Gray in round two.

Alabama’s T.T. Jones took over the Pro Extreme Bike points lead based on going to the final against Floridian Scott Gray after starting from the 7th position. Both will be looking for their first ADRL win in Virginia.
