Tim and Craig’s Most Excellent Adventure

“Road trip.” We’ve all uttered the phrase at one time or another. It usually bringd to mind the idea of convertibles going down a sun-drenched road with everybody in the car tuned-up on their beverage of choice on the way to an adventure.

That’s the way it always is in the movies, but in the world of racing “road trip” more often than not means sleeping eight to a room, bad food, nasty cops, sleepless nights and a busted race car. However, when sitting around a table with old friends years after the pain of the road trip has been forgotten, they often become funny stories we all share with our peers.

Veteran DRO photo Tim Marshall and the Michael family had one of these experiences on their way from Las Vegas to the fuel altered race in Tucson and we thought we would share it with you in Tim’s own words.

After meeting with Craig Michael and his great crew at 7:00 a.m. we stopped at the nearby Truck Wash just to make sure that his 2002 Freightliner "Big Red" would be really lookin’ good, not knowing what lay ahead for us.

The Craig Michael family were nice enough to bring DRO’s Tim Marshall with them from Las Vegas to Tucson so that we could cover the race. (See the sidebar on their most excellent adventure getting to Tucson) The “Vegas Heat” team finished the third quickest AA/FA on the grounds, getting a time slip for a 6.556/204.32.  (James Drew photo)
