PRO EXTREME
With absolutely no prior testing, Gray’s supercharged Camaro managed to qualify 13th in the 16-car Pro Extreme field. Number one qualifier was three-time winner Joshua Hernandez and hall-of-famer tuner Jim Oddy. They recorded a 3.813 and looked to be the odds-on favorite before smoking the tires in the semi-finals against Gray. Gray also got past defending ADRL series champion Jason Scruggs and former ADRL event winner Brian Daniels in the final round for his first ADRL win.
“Obviously, we’re absolutely thrilled with the car,” Gray said after his tire-smoking win over Daniels, whose engine broke just off of the line in the final round. “We should have left it (tune-up) alone for the final, but being boys we just couldn’t and tuned it up a bit. That’s why it lost traction there, but I’m always ready for that.”
