SONOMA NOTES AND QUOTES 2008

Tony Schumacher

“It’s been a lot of fun, the last couple of races have just been outstanding,” said Schumacher (above), who ran a 3.886 at 307.93 in his U.S. Army dragster to defeat local-favorite Hillary Will (Eureka, Calif.) and her KB Racing team’s 3.988 at 306.19 in the final. “Who would not trade places with our car? I love having the bulls-eye on me.”
“We got a lot of races left to win, people are saying we don’t even need to show up, but we want to win,” Schumacher said.

Doug  Kalitta
“Well, it was a bad day and a good day,” Kalitta, a 43-year old resident of Ann Arbor, Mich., said. “We certainly are disappointed about losing in the first round, but getting inducted into the Wall of Fame helped ease the blow a little. We’ve been struggling lately with our Mac Tools car. Sometimes you just get a little off, and it’s hard to find your way back as far as the tune-up goes, but I have all the confidence in the world in my team that we’ll get it figured out very soon.”

Rod Fuller
“We had a bit of luck today to go out early and stay fourth in the points,” Fuller said. “Our objective is to head into the Countdown (to the Championship) in third place and we’re less than three rounds from third. Our car ran on all eight cylinders for three straight runs and that’s something we can build on.”

Antron Brown

“To be honest, I don’t know what happened on that pass,” Brown (right) said. “We had a big lead and the car just started spinning the tires. It was going to run a low 3.90. There must have been something on the track that didn’t get cleaned up because our car and the Army car spun the tires in the same spot on the track.”
“We had a good Western Swing. We built on (Larry) Dixon and now lead those guys by 65 points. We want to maintain the No. 2 position for the Countdown (to the Championship). We would have liked to have won, but it didn’t happen. We’ll try our best at Brainerd.”
