Who says you have to have nitro to have flames in drag racing? These days nitrous oxide-injected and turbocharged cars are making some pretty serious flames on their own.

Tim Marshall’s Street Car Super Nationals Photo Journal

DRO photographer Tim Marshall is one of drag racing’s great photographers. During his long career he has been the Photo Editor at Hot Rod Magazine and Super Stock & Drag Illustrated. We think that his work is better than it has ever been. Enjoy the Street Car Super Nationals as seen through the lens of Tim Marshall’s camera.

Brad Personett’s turbocharged Hemi-powered Camaro has run over 250 mph on the quarter mile. Here Tim caught it “clearing its throat” at Las Vegas. We’ve noticed a trend lately of turbo car owners tilting the exhaust pipes up ala Top Fuel and Funny Cars. Down-force?
Another impressive flamer was the ‘62 Impala belonging to Wisconsin racer Mike Holdridge. It’s powered by a dual turbocharged big block. Mike ran a best of 6.504 at 221.34

One is flamin’ and one is hitting a “cone”. Typical Street Car action at the Super Nationals.
