The 56th annual World Series of Drag Racing held at Cordova Dragway Park was the third of the four races that offer points towards winning the inaugural Midwest Nostalgia Super Stock Series.

Series organizer Chris Schneider made his first race of the series in his wedge-powered “Missouri Max.” He went three rounds before getting trailered.

The series is open to most period-correct, Super Stock-type doorslammers, with the main criteria being that the engine must have a dual carb intake system.  With those rules in place, 25 of the Midwest’s best paid the entry fee to race at the World Series of Drag Racing.
There were two qualifying sessions run so that the drivers could see what kind of performance they could wring out of their over-40-year-old doorslammers. The quickest Nostalgia Super Stockers at Cordova were Bill White’s AA/FX rat motored Chevelle, D.W. Hopkins’ 1964 Ford T-Bolt and Mitzi Herzing’s ’63 Sport Fury. White’s Chevelle and Hopkins’ T-bolt both dipped into the low 9-teens in practice and Herzing’s big “Mayflower” ran solid 9.30 passes.
