Yes that’s a big grin on Steven Reed’s face underneath that helmet as he readies his car for the semi-finals. He managed to qualify in fourth place with a 5.762 and then took out wife Debbie in the first frame despite a sleepy .117 to .032 reaction time in a 5.700 to 5.810 stoush. The semis saw Reed face top qualifier, Aaron Hambridge and while he managed to leave first the Camaro went into severe tyre shake off the line and he had to get off it allowing Hambridge through for an easy win. The rookie of the field was Paul Madill who had his gorgeous Dodge Charger out in an effort to run well. The car ran an initial 6.02 but stepped up to a 5.816 for sixth on his second lap in qualifying. The plan for a win on race day came unstuck in the first round in a match up against Wayne Newby. As soon as Madill hit the throttle the Mopar turned hard left and went straight for the wall. It appears some fluid got under the left slick and it ended his day early.
