GEICO Powersports drag racer Karen Stoffer bowed out of Sunday's action well before she had planned, but she set a national elapsed time record of 6.847 seconds on her Suzuki on Friday.

Stoffer already had backed up her run by qualifying No. 1 with a 6.855 at 194.77 mph on Saturday. By NHRA rule, any racer making a world record run must post another pass within one percent of the record run at the same event to make if official.

"We knew we had a bike that could win the race and the national record proved that," Stoffer said. "For our first time out in the season, it was a good race, just not a great one. We accomplished two big season goals -- the No. 1 qualifier and the national record. It's been a lesson to learn as far as learning the racetrack and tuning the bike. We thought the same setup was going to be OK, but it really didn't work very well.”

PRO MOD

Canadian flags waved in the grandstands as Manitoba’s Kenny Lang made drag racing history as the first to win a Wally in the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Series.

Lang became the first winner in NHRA’s newest national touring series as he drove his green 1953 Corvette to victory over Sweden’s Michael Gullqvist, who drove the ProCareRX 1968 Camaro owned by series supporter Roger Burgess.

“This is a great event and I am thrilled to win it,” said Lang who qualified sixth and defeated a tough group of drivers in earlier rounds including JEGS.com’s Troy Coughlin, In-N-Out Burger ’63 Corvette driver Melanie Troxel and Al-Anabi driver Khalid Balooshi.

Lang powered his ’53 Corvette to a 5.908-second run at 243.68 mph to earn the victory in the final round, but ultimately didn’t need the strong performance when Gullqvist fouled at the start.
