Unexpected fuel system problems in the final round of Monday’s rain-delayed Inaugural Four-Wide Nationals doused Greg Stanfield’s hopes of an NHRA Pro Stock victory at zMAX Dragway.

Stanfield put Kenny Koretsky’s Nitro Fish Pro Stock Pontiac GXP into the final round of competition in the day’s initial round, but he wasn’t competitive when it came time to run for the top prize.

“The carburetor flooded at the starting line,” explained Stanfield, “and I couldn’t get it to reopen.  Obviously we don’t know what happened.  I’ve never had anything like this happen before.”

Mike Edwards won the title in 6.596 seconds at 210.05 mph, followed by Jason Line (6.632, 209.36 mph), Bob Yonke (6.662, 207.98) and Stanfield (12.558 seconds) in fourth place overall.

Team crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia was also mystified by the faulty carburetor. “It could have been caused by something in the fuel system,” he said. “Greg was trying to clear it out at the starting line but couldn’t do it.”

Summit Racing Pro Stock racer Jason Line continued his string of strong performances on Monday, powering to a runner-up finish at the rain-delayed completion of the 4-Wide Nationals in Concord, NC.  After advancing to the second round prior to the postponement on Sunday, Line used a quick 6.617-second, 209.56-mph pass to advance to the third round of this unique four-wide race.

Although he posted his best reaction time of the weekend at .020 and covered the quarter-mile in 6.632-seconds, 209.36 mph, it fell just shy of Mike Edwards 6.596-second effort, which was the quickest pass of eliminations.  Even so, Line crossed the finish line ahead of Greg Stanfield and Bob Yonke, allowing him to claim the runner-up position and corresponding championship points.
