The event saw nearly 100 supercharged, turbocharged, nitrousized, and mountain-motored doorslammers in four classes parked on the VMP pit asphalt along with around 30 of the quickest and fastest drag racing motorcycle teams that don’t burn nitro.

By the end of the race on Saturday night, when the jet-car blasted down the VMP track at exactly 7 p.m., hardcore doorslammer fans had witnessed the quickest and fastest elapsed times and speeds ever recorded by doorslammer cars in the history of eighth-mile drag racing.

Texas privateer Frankie Taylor re-set the ET record in Pro Extreme at 3.607. His teammate Wes Johnson, relatively unknown ‘till now, captured the speed record at 211.69 mph. Both cars used Lenco-glides/torque converter transmissions.

The two-wheel contingent wasn’t slacking either as Adam Owens lowered the ADRL records for the Pro Extreme Motorcycle class to 4.056 at 178.10 mph.

By the end of the two-day doorslammer speed orgy the ADRL faithful had seen record or near record performances in everyone of the ADRL classes as well as some memorable battles between old foes during eliminations.

PRO EXTREME

He didn’t win but Texas privateer Frankie “Madman” Taylor, along with his brother Paul and data logger whiz Billy Stockton, dominated every other segment of the class. Taylor and his Jeffers Race Cars ‘Vette reeled off a sub-3.70 lap on almost every pass they made all weekend, regardless of whether it was qualifying or eliminations.
