Pro Street winner Clint Hairston

Incredible times were turned in at the PSCA/RC Construction Services California Nationals presented by Chris Alston Chassisworks at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, Calif., by a number of PSCA’s top racers. A grand total of 11 new records were set in the heads up classes, led by Clint Hairston in the Petronix GTO as he set both the ET and Speed records at a fantastic 6.084 and 238.30 mph. He actually went 240.85 in the final round but there was no time for another back up run.

Doug Sikora and his Jason Pettis powered twin turbo Mustang grabbed the speed record in Accufab Outlaw 10.5 at 214.14 mph while Rick Snavely just missed the ET record. MagnaFuel ZDR/TT-5 new class records went to two great competitors in Roger Holder Jr. and Al Jimenez. Holder set the quickest ever run in the class with a 7.203 in his new nitrous-injected Camaro, while Jimenez’s ProCharged Camaro was the fastest at 197.26 mph.

David Schwarz and his purple single turbo Mustang swept both ends of the Mickey Thompson Tires Wild Street record at 7.631/188.41 mph. Randy Jones‘ wild little Chevy Cavalier easily recorded both ends of the Edelbrock Hot Street National Record at 8.038, 169.49 mph.

John Sciapi

PRO STREET

Fifteen of the top racers were on hand and it turned out to be one of the best shows in PSCA’s history.  Friday’s test n tune was an indication of just how good this event would be when West Covina’s finest racer, John Scialpi, who had won the last PSCA event in Las Vegas, ripped off an incredible 6.15 elapsed time.

Qualifying was tops too as Scialpi’s Redline Oil-backed ‘57 Bel Air whipped out an even better 6.091, 232.51 mph for the top spot in Pro Street. Randy Walker in the RC Construction El Camino was right behind with his career-best pass of 6.165/224.86. Hairston’s 6.207/229.41 (which was quicker than the current Pro Street record) was only good enough for #3 during this extremely fast weekend. Hard to believe this one when Giuseppe Gentile’s turbo Mustang ran a nice 6.423 at only 118.32 mph.
