Another second-time winner was Matt Patterson (Coatesville, Pa.) in Junior Dragsters, who ran 7.968 at 81.29 over the eighth-mile. Runner-up Joe Dedrick (Bally, Pa.) was second for the fourth time in a row and the fifth time this season.

Patterson was .295 over dial-in in the semis, but had a much better reaction time to beat Jessie Rothenberger (Glenmoore, Pa.) in the semis. A quick start also made the difference in the quarters against Eddie McBride (Glenolden, Pa.).

Sunday’s NHRA Junior Dragster Pennsylvania State Championships was rained out and has been rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 12.
