PRO EXTREME MOTORCYCLE

Ashley Owens has absolutely dominated Pro Extreme Motorcycle this year, setting new ET and speed records along the way to winning six of seven events and giving him an insurmountable points lead. A distant 1,713 points back in second place, Canada’s Terry Schweigert has all but clinched a Belts berth, too, followed by Eric McKinney, Travis Davis, Kim Morrell (shown) and Lances Hines, respectively, who all have at least a five-round distance between them and Charlie Prophit in ninth place.

Prophit is less than two rounds behind both James Helton and Ronald Procopio in seventh and eighth places, while 2009 PXM World Champion Scott Gray is just over two rounds beyond Procopio right now, as is two-time PXM champ Billy Vose (2007-08). Twelfth-place rider Paul Gast, team owner for Owens, and Robert Hunnicutt, teammate to Procopio, also have a shot at getting in, but probably not without one or more of the current Belts qualifiers having disastrous outings.

EXTREME PRO STOCK

Only John Montecalvo has clinched a spot in the Extreme Pro Stock Battle for the Belts, but Brian Gahm and Cary Goforth, separated by only one point in second and third, respectively, also have practically ensured their participation, but in fourth with less than a three-round advantage over current ninth-place man Jeff Dobbins (shown), Bob Bertsch cannot afford to give anything away.

Likewise for Mark Martino with not even two rounds to play with, or Elijah Morton, Steven Boone or especially Pete Berner, who leads Dobbins by only 74 points. The gap from Belts inclusion widens to more than two rounds for Cale Aronson and Dean Goforth (father to Cary), then increases to 351 for Doug Kirk in 12th place, who has probably the last realistic chance of making the leap.
