John Hale (left) and Paul Romine.

The performances of the two racers who were first and second in DragRacingOnline.com AA/FC Challenge presented by Lucas Oil set up what promised to be an all-time final round. Unfortunately, the final round didn’t live up to its promise. The death smoke from Bowen’s motor turned out to be a spun main bearing and although the crew thrashed and got the engine repaired for the finals it didn’t have oil pressure on the fire up.

Choosing not to tell either track or DRO officials, the Bowens in true hardcore drag racer tradition brought the car to the starting line, fired it, did the burnout and staged against Romine.

Romine had his best reaction time against Bowen who just launched the car and ran it about 300 feet before abandoning the run and watched from the driver’s seat as Romine streaked to a 5.907/ 240.77 for his third DRO win of the 2010 season and his second win at Kansas City International.
