On Sunday the temperatures and many, many oil-downs left spectators and racers frustrated and weary by the time the shadows fell across the two left lanes used of the zMax four-wide track. The grandstands on the side of the unused lanes had only a smattering of fans so far away from the action.

As had happened at the U.S. Nationals two weeks before, one lane was obviously better and that played an important role in the outcome of the races. All but two round winners came in the right-hand lane.

As Ashley Force Hood said in what may have been the understatement of the day, “It was not ideal conditions for racing.”
