AA/FDs and NITRO HARLEYS

I stood underneath the tower when these cars and bikes ran and really enjoyed the snoot full of nitro I got.  The AA/FDs filled the air with a lot of nitro, but in my opinion the nitro Harleys put out the most potent fumes.  Both of these classes put on a great show and the Harley guys are out of their minds, no way I’d take a ride on one of those monsters.

EXHIBITION

Besides the nitro racing, Feld Motorsports booked in a match race between the triple-engined Jet Truck of Ken Shockley racing the “Maximum Destruction” Monster Truck to draw the kids. Again, boy oh boy, that also worked.  The crowd of kids around the Monster Truck between rounds was huge and the vocal reaction from the spectators during the race showed that they liked the match-up.

Feld also booked in my good friends Dick and Terry Rosberg’s “Thriller” Jet Dragster to take on Al Hanna’s car with Jill Canuso at the throttle.  Terry took the win Friday night with Jill claiming the Saturday night trophy.

RANDOM THOUGHTS

I really like the new Nitro Jam format: wham, bam, thank you, ma’am. Give the spectators a show in three hours, give them nitro, jets and a Monster Truck and the fans go home happy… They ran sportsman classes as a filler and the car count was way down…There was a lot of down-time on Friday night when three major oil-downs delayed the show but on Saturday the show finished right on time…The IHRA’s “fan friendly” format works …The pits were packed to the gills for the Saturday evening Pit Party and none of the teams had ropes up to keep the fans out…Only issue that tweaked me was how long it took to clean up oil-downs…In my opinion the Nitro Jam format works big time and I can’t wait until the next one Feb. 19-20 at Baton Rouge.
