The Top Fuel final was decided on the starting line as newly crowned Heritage Series Champion Brett Harris ran a 5.725 ET at 255.73 mph to Tony Bartone’s quicker but losing 5.693 at a monstrous 269.29 lap in Steve Boggs-tuned, Long Island, New York-based dragster.  Harris’s starting line RT of .075  to Bartone’s  .108 gave Harris just enough of a lead to hold off Bartone’s  monster top-end charge of 269.29  and he crossed the finish line first by just .0012 seconds or about six inches ahead of  Bartone’s Murf McKinney-built dragster.  Harris win was his second consecutive HHR win in Top fuel.

Brett Harris boils the hides in the winning AA/FD.

Illinois-based AA/FD owner  Frank Ousley  brought  his 392 Donovan equipped dragster to the CHRR and  was the number one qualifier with driver Jimmy Young.

Reportedly Harris’s Kaysville, Utah, team had not removed the cylinder heads from their Rodeck engine since they left for the event. They qualified fifth in the sixteen-car field with a  5.827.  On the way to the Winners Circle Harris defeated Brendan Murry with a 5.774, Jim Murphy with a 5.757 and number-one qualifier Jimmy Young with a bracket-like 5.724 in the semi-final round.
