A brief discussion at the preceding European Finals had Steve Venables suggesting he’d run out of power from his ACU Super Street Bike Hayabusa, but a “I’ve found it” comment at the start of the National Finals would have sent shivers down the back of the rest of the field. Low qualifier with a 7.327/190, Ven then settled into a mid seven second tempo and used a 7.491/189 to defeat Graham Dance’s 7.609/185 and is hot on the trail of his fourth class championship.

Although outside of the ACU categories, the 8.50 Bike class has found a significant home for a number of index racers in it’s first year as a fully fledged national series, although the Venables family name would be etched on the event trophy as Steve’s daughter Jemma recorded her first win first time out in the class after moving over from the 9.50 ranks. Qualifying low with a +0.011 best, Jem Ven then ran through the field taking out Sam Sykes in the final round.
