Number five qualifier Edwin Burgos lost to Efrain Garcia in the second round when he smoked the motor just  before the finish line

The final had all of the components to make it a classic race as Aruba’s Frans Ponson raced Puerto Rico’s Jorge Juarbe. The only advantage that Ponson might have had was that he had marginally better reaction times but not enough to cover Juarbe’s performance advantage.

Both cars pulled into the water late Sunday afternoon but that signaled the end of the drama as Ponson had some mechanical problems and the starter signaled that Juarbe would make a single for the title. The fans in the stands made it clear that they were thrilled that Juarbe was going to get the win and they didn’t care if it was single run. The Caguas, Puerto Rico, driver was the winner of the inaugural World Sport Compact Challenge, the $10,000 cash and, perhaps most importantly, bragging rights as the quickest and fastest car of the event.
