“It’s pretty amazing to go to five final rounds in the first 10 races and win four,” said Worsham. “It’s the kind of season that anybody would dream of, and it’s amazing to get it in my 21st season of racing. I have pretty high expectations, and I expect this team to compete for a championship, but I thought we’d get rolling and have to get things ironed out before we got in our groove. It shows what kind of team Sheik Khalid (Al-Thani), Alan Johnson, Brian Husen, and Jason McCulloch put together. I’m a lucky passenger in this car.”

The win kept Worsham in the No. 1 spot in the point standings while runner-up Massey strengthened his second spot in the standings with his third final round appearance in four races.

Spencer Massey, who qualified seventh in his FRAM/Prestone Top Fuel dragster, recorded a very respectable 3.931-second run at 297.42 miles per hour, but Worsham grabbed the win light with a 3.905-second pass at 298.14 mph.

“Sure, we would have preferred to win the race, but getting to a final is nothing to complain about,” said Massey. “We have now gone to three finals in the last four races and that’s saying something about this team. Everything is rolling now, so there is no reason to change anything.”

After banking his eighth career final round, Massey moved into second-place in the standings and now trails Worsham by 61 points.

“We are right there,” added the Fort Worth resident. “We are just a little over three rounds of racing out of first-place. Hopefully, we can continue our march and eventually rise to the top.”

Massey’s ascension through the Top Fuel ranks has thus far included 36-consecutive laps without smoking the tires.

Morgan Lucas piloted the GEICO/Lucas Oil Top Fuel dragster to its best finish since the season opener. Lucas reached the Top Fuel semifinals, the first time he's lasted this long since he won the NHRA Winternationals in February in Pomona. But despite the success, the weekend left Lucas wanting more.

"The car was doing great, and the guys are doing an outstanding job," Lucas said. "The more laps you make on the track, the quicker we're going to get, the more stuff we're going to learn, and the more of a threat we're going to be on everybody else."

Lucas faced Del Worsham, the NHRA Full Throttle Series points leader, in the semifinals. Worsham got the win when Lucas jumped the gun by -.076 seconds.

"I'm just kind of bummed with my red-light in the semis," he said. "I went up there, and I let a long tree get the best of me.

"That's the up-and-down side. Sometimes it'll work to your benefit and sometimes it's going to work against you. You get those people who try to get that edge like I was. I just need to get a little more control."
