The ADRL’s Extreme 10.5 class is in reality a Pro Extreme class with a narrower tire. At one time this class was dominated by ten wide racers like Billy Glidden with a nitrous oxide-injected small block Ford and the Titan Motorsports team with turbocharged inline six-cylinder power, but these days turbo and supercharged big cubic inch engine powered cars dominate the class.

It took some time for Dan Millen’s 2011 Jerry Bickel Race Cars Mustang to round into form, but everything changed thanks to a quick call to the builder after the first round of eliminations.  (Roger Richards photo)

Drivers such as Frankie Taylor, Chuck Ulsch, and Dan Millen in cars capable of running 3.80/205+ laps are now the leaders. At the 2011  Dragstock Dan Millen came away the winner of a class where sub-four-second, 200-plus-mph laps were cheap.

The ADRL has some problems with full fields in this class this year but that certainly wasn’t the case at Dragstock as there were 21 cars trying to make the 16-car field.

In the second round, number-one qualifier Dan Millen (3.89) got by car builder/racer Allen Pittman in an all-Mustang race recording a stout 3.939/196.82 that easily covered Pittman’s 4.010/192.28.

It was all Millen from there on. Millen set Low ET of the meet for the class with a 3.867/199+ thrashing of Frankie Taylor (running in both Pro Extreme and 10.5) in the semis when Taylor staged but couldn’t race. In the finals Millen lowered the ET mark again, crushing Chuck Ulsch with a track ET record of 3.855 at 201.46 mph to Ulsch’s 3.915/205.76. To add insult to injury Millen had a .019 RT to Ulsch’s .061.

“Anytime you race Chuck you have to be ready,” said Millen, who has now won three of the past four races. “We had it as aggressive as we could.

“It (the car) had been going left for a while, so I gave (car builder) Jerry Bickel a quick call and he gave me a couple things to try,” Millen said. “It’s probably something I shouldn’t have tried at that point in the race, but it worked out.

"I'm especially thrilled to win the first race at which we carried Zmatrixsolutions.com as a major sponsor. It couldn't have worked out any better."

Millen further cemented his points lead in XTF, but it took winning against Ulsch in the finals for the second straight race.
