Scott Hintz became the second Pro driver from Texas to get a Dragstock win while earning his second victory of the 2011 season in his third career final round. Dragstock VIII was truly a race in which any qualifier could win after the field was set with a spread of a mere forty-four thousandths of a second, a record for any 16-car Mountain Motor Pro Stock field.
Hintz came from the number-12 slot in qualifying to beat veteran Pro Stock racer John Montecalvo and, like Vose, he got his win thanks to his driving more than the performance of his Jerry Haas Race Cars ’09 Mustang. In the final Hintz had a .023 light and ran a 4.108/175.71, which was good enough to hold off Montecalvo’s 4.080/177.18 with a .069 RT.
On his way to the finals Hintz posted reaction times of .002 and .003!
After the win, an emotional Hintz dedicated the win to Bert Jackson, his former Extreme Pro Stock competitor.
“This feels great, but I’m just glad I was able to do this for Bert. He was a great friend and competitor and he meant a lot to all of us,”
Hintz said. “This win will always hold a special place. It was one of the saddest things I’ve ever experienced. It was horrible and very tragic, and I’m just happy to get this win in Bert’s honor.”
