PMRA, Quick 32 and PBSS season finish at Toronto

Montesano, Sampson and Hope take championships

The sixth and final race was completed Sept. 11 in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, and winners were declared in each series.

The champions in each of the drag racing series were also determined after this event.

Winning his second PMRA race of the year was Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek, Ontario.

The 1941 Willys driver qualified number two in the field and met up with number one qualifier Eric Latino of Whitby, Ont., in the final. Latino fouled at the line, and Boland went on to record a 5.943, 240.08 winning run.

The top spot in the PMRA 2011 Championship Point Award Series presented by Magnum Auto Parts, Patio Passport and Global Emissions Systems, Inc. was not determined until the final run between Boland and Latino.

Vito Montesano (left) of Maple, Ont., was leading the points race going into this last race, but Latino had a chance of taking the top spot. With Latino losing to Boland, Montesano won the title by a mere point over Boland, with Latino close in third spot. Montesano finished with 1534 points, Boland took second with 1533 points, and Latino placed third with 1526 points.

Semi-finalists in the PMRA race were Rob Atchison of London, Ont., and Montesano.
