Cars and bikes were paired off and the races began. The races were definitely “old school”, with a lovely flag starter and no real timing equipment per se. The eighth-mile drags went off without a hitch, except for a few cars stuck in the sand and one biker taking a tumble on his Harley. He was no worse for the wear and made several more passes that afternoon. The music of the Rib Eye Brothers entertained the crowd.

Mayor McLaughlin of Allenhurst and Mayor Paul Fernicola of the adjoining town of Loch Arbor were very pleased with how the event turned out. The local police were happy at how everyone behaved themselves too. According to Stultz, a New Jersey State Police Officer who also was there (the State Police supervise all racing in NJ) said it was the coolest event he had ever been to and would work closely with them to make it even better in 2013.

The Woodstock of Rat Rods went off without a hitch, and Mel Stultz should be proud of his latest creation. The buzz in the hot rod community is that they can’t wait until he does it again next year!
