Round 1

Eric Clark

The first pair up in round one had two of the strongest blown cars in the series as Clark’s Mustang lined up against Hickle’s Willys. Again Hickle experienced violent tire shake that shut off the engine and afforded him the best view of Clark making the performance statement of the year for the series as the crowd roared when the clocks showed 3.98 at 187.42 mph for the win and resetting the previous E.T. he established.

Luis Hidalgo Bengt Blomberg

The next match up had two nitrous monsters roll to the line. Still showing steady consistency, Hidalgo’s silver Camaro took out Bengt Blomberg’s black Firebird with a 4.29 at 171.36 to 6.13 at 83.81.

The championship battle was continued with the third pair as points leader Domino drew number one qualifier Brown in another all carbureted nitrous match up. With Domino basically being down two cylinders the Orange, Texas, driver was looking for every tenth he could find. When the yellow flashed Domino was too quick on the pedal and lit the red bulb, handing the win to Brown and opening the door for Clark to grab the title with a win in the next round. Brown’s run was almost lost on the crowd after seeing the red light from Domino, but the 4.02 at 175.37 showed that the Twins Performance team was back strong as ever.
