Gary Densham and Jack Beckman had quite the match in the second round. Beckman was off the line first, but around the 660-foot lights the Charger made a sudden move to the left, crossing the center line in front of Densham. Both men hit the brakes and Beckman tries to get back in his lane with Densham clipping the back of Beckman’s car. They both get to the finish line, but Beckman’s car hit the reflector and was disqualified. Densham turned on the redlight in the semis against John Force.  (James Drew photo)

Above: John Force’s youngest daughter, Courtney, made her own history qualifying No. 12 (three spots higher in her first race than her sister Ashley Force Hood) and winning her first round race (something only one out of eight JFR drivers had done, Gary Densham). Courtney’s Mustang ran 4.204/309.27 to defeat the 4.465/205.57 of Bob Tasca’s Mustang.

Left: It’s only been three months since Matt Hagan clinched the Funny Car title, but he lost in the first round to Ron Capps. (Tim Marshall photo)
