Ron Maroney’s ’32 Bantam out of Gilbert, Ariz.

Maroney had all kinds of issues in his first pass of the night, but righted a few wrongs in the final with a solid 6.237 at 225.60 to drive around Bradford, who wiggled all the way down the track for the second consecutive run.

Devin Pelrine

Wrapping up the pro rounds was the Nitro Harley class as Devin Pelrine, all the way from Alberta, Canada, bested fellow Canadian, Mike Scott, in the final. Neither bike had their best runs as Pelrine crossed the line first with a 7.072/202.03 as Scott went red by the smallest of margins.

Les Shockley’s Super Shockwave jet truck brought the evening to a close, along with the side-by-side battle of the jet trains and Ed “The Outlaw” Jones and his wild wheelstander.

“This is a big win for us and a big win for these fans,” Savage said of his win. “You just can’t finish any better than first. We had a great day and started out right on target. My guys took this car and did a great job making it fast. I treat each and every one of these guys I race against the same. They all have quality cars and great drivers and I am proud to pick up a win against a group of guys like we saw this weekend.”

Savage advanced to the final with an opening round victory over James Day in “War Eagle,” putting down another consistent lap of 5.927, 233.84. In the consolation round Friday’s winner, Tim Boychuk, picked up a round win against Day.
