Don Schumacher Racing VP of Operations Mike Lewis is getting to be a regular behind the wheel of Bob Godfrey’s orange Camaro funny car, but this year missing the stout 5.874 bump spot.  At last Fall’s Reunion, Lewis made it into the show as an alternate.

More of the thrash was evident with the new Stone Woods & Cook “Dark Horse 2” Mustang, however driver Mike Cook Jr. successfully completed his licensing and loves driving a nitro funny car.  Unable to compete on Sunday, having just finished licensing, the team left the beautiful funny car out for fans to take photos.


Click to enlarge » One of my favorite people in Heritage Series racing is Debra Ousley, co-owner of the event winning “Crop Duster” Top Fuel Dragster with her husband and tuner Frank Ousley.  Towing all the way out to Famoso from Morrison, Illinois with their Jim Young driven dragster, I can’t wait until they show up with the matching yellow AA/FC soon.

Click to enlarge » I had stopped by Mickey Thompson Tires the day before heading north to Famoso Raceway to grab a few new sets of slicks for Tim Boychuk and Mike McCain, little did I know that I was transporting a pair of slicks that would make it to the Semi’s for McCain’s funny car and to the AA/FC event winner for Boychuk and Crew Chief Roland Leong.  I did get a few stern looks from the California Highway Patrol as I pulled the packed trailer over the Grapevine.
