The two Murray Anderson built Dodge Saratoga sof Geoff Gradden (left) and Peter Kapris faced off on Saturday afternoon qualifying . This run , as seen here tells the tale. Gradden has already shot off to his right and would struggle to bring his car straight while Kapiris went straight down the middle of the track to qualify for the field. Gradden ended up as fifth alternate with a 6.37 best.

It seems to be feast or famine for Maurice Fabietti and his 2006 Holden Monaro (GTO). In the month leading up to the event his car was involved in a braking area accident when he got tangled in Tony DeFelice’s chutes and rolled. He had the car repaired at Murray Anderson’s shop and made the roll call qualifying on the bump of the quickest ever Doorslammer field with a 5.987. Despite this the gremlins returned in the first round as he couldn’t start his Holden Trade Club Monaro when his starter went south.

The final pairing of Shane Tucker’s Monster sponsored Pontiac GPX and Jason Grima’s PC Group sponsored Mustang is already decided here as Grima is late off the line. A far quicker 7.085/192.58 was no match for a two and a half tenth holeshot and Tucker’s 7.154/192.49. Tucker had problems in the semis limping to the line for a solo but it was all fixed for the final and Tucker dedicated the win to young Daniel Sheehy who had died in a house fire in the days leading up to the race.

One of the real talents in the vast Pro Stock bracket down under is Jason Grima. He deserves to have had more success over the recent past as his car certainly can keep up with the best of them. His Ford Mustang GT 500 qualified sixth with a 7.087 that was obviously not recorded on this pass when the car stepped out off the line. Still a 7.102, a 7.077 and 7.141 put him in the final against Shane Tucker but there a narcoleptic 0.311 light meant his 7.085 never caught his opponent’s 7.154 winning time.
