Eliminations:
Round 1: Gary Brandt over Cedric Washington in a battle of Fox bodies, 5.43 to 5.70. Dan Hale’s Fox Body (.103, 5.80/129.69) over Taro Martinez (.060, 5.85/118.76) in Silva’s 1964 Nova in the closest race of the round. Dimaggio’s ‘71 Firebird over a redlighting Noyes’s ‘71 Camaro; Tom Daugherty Mustang ran 5.40 to get the win over John Gazon’s ‘70 Nova at 6.50; Bartlett’s ‘84 Camaro over Rivetti’s 1990 Fox Body, 5.73 to 6.77; Eric Gustafson’s ‘69 Camaro (5.54) over Jim Rios in his ‘68 Chevelle Wagon (6.20); Dan Tyack’s ‘70 Camaro (5.89) over Ben Davidow’s 1995 Mustang (6.73); Jason Ayers’ 2003 Mustang (5.49) over Gordon Saiki’s ‘66 Corvette (no show); Kevin Keller’s ‘64 Nova (5.69) over Mike Saiki’s ‘67 Camaro (6.05); and Mark Washington’s Fox Body with a class record 5.350 at 135.27 mph over over Richard Gabel’s ‘66 Impala with a tire-spinning 7.543.
ROUND 2: Washington 5.54 def. Bartlett 8.32; Keller 5.78 def. Hale 6.54; Gustafson 5.53 def. Ayers 5.83; Daugherty 6.00 def. Tyack 6.19; and Brandt 5.434 over Dimaggio (no show)
ROUND 3: Daugherty 5.427 def. Keller 6.141; Brandt 5.47 def. Gustafson 8.05; and Washington got a bye run.
SEMI’S: Daugherty .090, 5.428/131.95 def. Washington .073, 5.579/134.36 and Brandt got a bye.
FINALS: In the finals it would be two Lim combos, BBC nitrous vs SBF nitrous. Both cars had been running close numbers and it looked to be a good one! Brandt got away first .080 to Daugherty’s .137, but he fell off a bit and Daugherty made another low 5.4 run and got the win with a 5.434 at 131.33 mph over Brandt’s 5.533 at 131.10.
Qualifying: New for 2012 and sponsored by Brandt Racing and VORTECH superchargers, this class was requested by the racers. There was a small turnout at the first event, but racer promise more will turn out for the June race. This class has very few rules: stock suspension and appearance vehicles, a true radial tire and 2800-lb minimum weight.
Leading the pack in Qualifying was Ron Shaw’s nitrous small block-powered Fox Body with a 9.036 at 160.38 followed by Jeff Cagle in the LS-1 nitrous CPR ‘72 Datsun Z 9.395/150.80 and Cameron Hensley in his nitrous LS-1 ’02 Camaro with a 9.830/139.62.
SEMIS: Shaw was the laddered single while on the other side of the ladder, Cagle took the win over Hensley with nice clean runs, 9.267 at 151.15 to 9.766 at 144.58.
FINALS: Shaw had been the quickest during the event and both cars needed back up runs for the class ET Record. Shaw got away first (.114 to.183) but shortly after Cagle jumped out in front and stayed there, taking the win and the ET Record at 9.385 at 152.28 to Cagle’s 9.541 at 159.93, which was back-up for the MPH record)
A/GAS (7.60): Al White was the only entrant and ran 7.659 in his final round.
B/GAS (8.60): There were 17 cars in this field with some very close racing. Doug Crumlich took the #1 Qualifier spot with an 8.602. In the final it was Randy Kersey .010, 8.617 over Brandon Stalnaker .054, 8.616.
C/GAS (9.60): In the 12-car field, Ron Noyes was #1 Qualifier with a 9.605. In the final it was Noyes vs Jordan Jahnke, with the win going to Jahnke .035, 9.634 to a .077, 9.608 combination for Noyes.
D/GAS (10.60): The class is sponsored by Engine Dynamics. Michael Boner took the #1 spot in the nine-car field with 10.612. In the final round Brett Bell’s .078, 10.619 got the win over Wesley Eisenga’s .045, 10.673.
E/GAS (11.60): There were 13 cars competing in the class and David Burnitzki got the #1 spot with an 11.602. In the final round, 2011 “Rookie of the Year” Matt Miyashiro met multiple-time class winner James Brown. This time around it was Miyashiro taking the win in a double breakout, .028, 11.505 to .025, 11.498.
OPEN COMP: Sponsored by New York Oil, there were 21 cars in the 4-tenths pro tree bracket. Qualifying is by Reaction Time and the #1 Qualifier was Ron Anzalone with a PERFECT .000 in his beautiful 6-cylinder ‘23 T-Bucket! In eliminations it came down to Mark Miyashiro’s ‘27 T Roadster and Ryan Rabe in his ‘55 Chevy, Mark would take the WIN with a .044 9.704 (9.60 D. I. ) over Ryans .235 10.351 (9.20 D. I. )
SPORTSMAN: Sponsored by Brandon’s Transmission, the class seems to have more women racers than any other and they are making the men earn everything they get! There were two women in the top three qualifying spots at this event, but Matt Miyashiro just edged out Dani Davidson for the #1 spot. Both racers had .009 RT’s but Miyashiro got the spot because he did it first! At the end of the day, it was Joy Linehan taking the win in her ‘ 65 Chevelle, .053, 11.596 (11.55 dial) over Terry Rolin riding his 2006 Kaw ZX-14, .091, 9.592 (9.54 dial).
