Savage and Broome Sweep the Competition

This year’s version of the IHRA Salt Lake Nitro Jam was nothing more than hot. As in temperature, hot. Both days were near or at 100 degrees with very little humidity. This meant that the corrected altitude was ranging anywhere from 6500 to 8500 feet, giving many of the racers fits.

The combination of extremely high temperatures and a virgin racing surface was throwing many of the professional crew chiefs some major curve balls. Many of the teams’ computer readouts looked something more like electrocardiograms as the cars were fighting to keep traction on the hot very new surface.

Bob Godfrey

FRIDAY, JUNE 29

In the first professional session of the evening, the Prostalgia funny cars started the evening as Bob Godfrey and Dale Pulde were the first pair up. However, there would be only one car running as when the “War Eagle” team went to fire the car they were meet with a very loud bang. Pulde decided to forgo the attempt, leaving Godfrey to make a solo pass and run a very respectable 6.28 at 228.70 in the heat.
