Got gas... and Proud of it

ADRL Pro Extreme star Quain Stott has a well-known appreciation for the roots of drag racing and recreated a 1941 Willys gasser as a tribute to the car he used to watch Gene Cromer (right) race when Stott was a child growing up in North Carolina. Stott, along with fellow nostalgia gasser fans and car owners Greg Porter and Jeremy Pearson, put together an eight-car gasser race Aug. 11, at Greer Dragway in South Carolina, where Cromer last competed 47 years ago, but this time served as honorary grand marshal. No ETs or speeds were shown on the track's scoreboards throughout the event in order to keep the focus on the show and not the cars' performance. "I just want to show modern-day fans what it was like to see these cars race back in the day," Stott said.

Greg Porter's '55 Chevy "Night Stalker" is an original race car from the mid-'60s gasser era, originally built and raced by Dude Moore. Like Stott with Cromer, Greenville, SC's Porter grew up watching Moore race and rescued the car from a pasture behind Moore's house about five years ago. "We're all just here to have fun, but as long as I can outrun that Willys (Stott) over there, it's all good."
