It’s called the Fall Nationals, but someone forgot to tell Mother Nature as hot temperatures and a sticky racetrack greeted racers for the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the all-concrete Texas Motorplex near Dallas. Antron Brown raced to the Top Fuel victory Sept. 23 and Bob Tasca (Funny Car), Allen Johnson (Pro Stock) and Michael Ray (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also were winners at the second of six playoff events in the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship.

Don Schumacher Racing was assured of at least its 193rd NHRA title when Antron Brown's Matco Tools dragster met FRAM/Prestone's Spencer Massey in the championship round of Top Fuel to mark the 24th time and seventh in 19 events this year that a championship round in Top Fuel featured a pair of DSR dragsters.
Brown won the close race that pulled him into a tie with Massey for the points lead in the Countdown. It was the fourth time this year the combination was Brown and Massey with Brown winning the last two.
