Stepping up from Super Pro hasn’t been easy for Rick Garrett as licensing has been hindered by mechanical problems at the critical time. However, the drop dead gorgeous ex-Blake Housley ADRL Pro Nitrous Willys, built by Tommy Mauney, helped Garrett stepped up to the mark at the National Finals with an easy 6.96 getting it signed off, and a pair of sevens put him onto the qualification ladder and then into the semis for the first time.

Someone having far too much fun in his first season behind the wheel of a nitro fuelled machine is Nick Davies who took over driving duties for Lawrie Gatehouse and the Chaos team at the start of the year. Running an eyewateringly high percentage of pop and dry hopping around from the staging lanes like a veteran (which gained a ticking off from the Race Director) Davies produced a 6.358/213 best to take the championship, although he overpowered the track and then shed the blower belt on what would prove to be the final pass of the year, giving opponent Terri-Anne White enough points to take second place in the series.
